Meets every Friday from 10am to midday. We enjoy water and acrylic painting, silk painting, crochet, knitting, needle felting, patchwork, cross-stitch, gold work, and of course coffee and a chat. We have had exhibitions over the years and have contributed to displays in Steeple Ashton church for Christmas and Remembrance Sunday. Though we all have different skills we benefit from encouragement and advice one to another and are sometimes inspired to try something new.

Village fete Saturday 1st July 2023
The weather was much kinder than last year even if rather windy.
Thank you to everyone who donated cakes, bottles, chocolate, plants and raffle prizes and for coming along and spending some money.
Thank you for the loan of gazebos, movement of tables etc, manning stalls and of course to Jacqui and James for the use of their field and facilities again.
Stephan and Cora from ‘Wiltshire Mind’ opened the fete for us and were delighted with a lovely bouquet of garden flowers and a button-hole made by Sarah and presented by Abigail. ‘Wiltshire Mind’ provides one to one counselling and group counselling in our local area and relies solely on donations. Stephan thanked us for the donation we’d sent in January after our Christmas fund raising events and was grateful that we were holding a fete to donate more. They both thought that we lived in a lovely village with a great community.
Many villagers, friends and families came along and enjoyed themselves, taking part in the games, winning bottles, drinking tea/coffee, buying plants and books. Helpers enjoyed a fish and chip supper with desserts in the evening at Susie’s to finish off the day. Thank you, Susie for hosting.
We raised a couple of pounds over £700 – well done. We will add to this the money from Ladies club bring and buy in April and a donation from the coffee morning group. This means that in a couple of weeks or so (there are often payment for left over plants and the odd donation after the event) we will be able to send a little over £600 to ‘Wiltshire Mind’ and give £200 plus a little to the Village Hall – our fund raising is always split 75/25 in this way.

Coronation of King Charles III
What a lovely day for our street party in Peppercorn Orchard. Just over 60 villagers enjoyed a lunchtime party to celebrate King Charles III’s Coronation and as usual there was plenty of delicious food to go round. Thank you to all the helpers for moving furniture from the hall and elsewhere, setting up tables, bunting etc and then washing up and packing away and of course to all the cooks.
The Art and Craft group have been busy again!
Thank you to Carol for coming up with the idea and plan and doing all the final finishing as well as the complicated knitting. Our experts in knitting and crochet - Carol, Mary and Beryl were assisted by the rest of us who knitted squares, strips, triangles and flowers and made the ring. We were extremely lucky with the weather on Friday as the sun shone on us instead of the forecast of rain all day. ‘King George’ will sit on his ‘thorn’ adjacent to the phone box for a week so do pop up and see him.
Race Night 2023
A thoroughly enjoyable evening on Saturday ‘At the Races’! Punters were able to buy a horse at the beginning of each race and then £1 bets were placed. Two very large foam dice indicated which horse would move and how many squares forward it went. Landing in the water jump or on the hedge was penalised by backward moves. There were some winners and some losers at the end of the evening (the horse I bought never even got out of the starting block!) and £170 was raised towards the hall funds.
Great Hinton Ladies Club – March 2023
Ladies club enjoyed a wonderful evening on Wednesday when Debs Marrison came and spoke about her millinery business. We learnt how her hats were made, what the fabrics were and more. We all tried one on and were told how it was made.. Debs is passionate about her hat making and gave a very enthusiastic talk. She makes bespoke hats to purchase or hire for weddings and events and is based at Paxcroft farm.
Pub Olympics
‘Pub Olympics’ in the hall on 21st January was thoroughly enjoyed by all. The ‘Yellow Perils’ wiped the board by not only winning the overall title but also having the best individual scores in Dominoes, Skittles and Table Skittles. There was only one complete failure, who shall remain nameless, scoring zero in the Shove Ha’penny. Although this person did go on to win the individual Darts.
Summer Fete 2022
The weather was almost kind to us on Saturday since it only rained whilst we were setting up and putting away!!
I don’t think any of the people attending got wet and the wonderful show from Wafaa and her belly dancers was completely in the dry!
We welcomed Aimee and Polly Stimpson to tell us about PSP and to open the fete.
Thank you to all helpers, people who donated and those of you who came to spend your money.
We raised just shy of £600 to be split 75% to the PSP Association ( Progressive Supranuclear Palsy) and 25% to the village hall trust.

** Great Hinton does it again! **
As usual the ladies of the village provided a marvellous spread for our Platinum Jubilee Lunch. After days of constantly checking the weather forecast and being told it was going to be awful, the rain held off and we all had a wonderful time chatting to neighbours and friends. Pity the sun didn't shine but we all enjoyed ourselves. Well done to Orson who had made a really impressive crown and won a large bar of chocolate for his efforts.
Thank you to all who helped.

** Ladies Club Starts Again **
After 18 months of no activity Ladies Club has once again b een meeting in the hall with adherence to safety by having the door open, extractor system on and with social distancing. Our charity for this year is the PSP association. Funds were sent after the village picnic in September and more will go after the Christmas collections and the summer fete.
In September 12 of us met for a chat, coffee and a short quiz. It was so good to be able to get out again.
10 of us visited Trowbridge Museum in October to be shown around its revamped premises - its almost unrecognizable as the same place!
Last week there were 11 at our craft evening. Bottles and jars were covered with silk fibre using PVA glue. They then had to be left to dry (very sticky) in the hall before we could take them home and insert lights into them.
In December we are going out again for our Christmas meal and in January we hope to be able to be entertained by John Craig, a retired Fire Chief, with a talk called 'Going to Blazes'. Fingers crossed that COVID will not put a stop to this.
KC Cup Competition 2021
This year the competition is again photography. The theme is any animal photo - cute, comical, wild, pet, zoo animals - all accepted.
It will be an online competition as the 'lockdown' competition in 2020 which avoids the problem of printing photos.
Please submit via the contact us page no more than 3 entries with name and title. If you have any problems email directly to Peter Bryant or Sandra by the end of October.
Judging will then be by villagers votes during the first week of November (details for voting at the end of October)
